COVID-19 Update

June 3, 2020

Like scores of businesses around the country, Helser Brothers has been dealing with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we were able to remain open, we were not at full capacity. Now that restrictions and risks are lifting, we are bringing everyone back. To do so safely and to protect our employees and clients from any future outbreaks, we have taken several precautions.

Hand sanitizer and masks with PPE title

Alongside our normal safety gear, we have placed hand sanitizer at all stations in both the plant and office area. Employees are advised to use the sanitizer frequently, especially when interacting with fellow employees who are most at risk.

Boxes of PPE masks are readily available and employees are required to wear them when moving about the building. Those working in separate offices are allowed to remove the masks when they are alone and the door is closed.

Disinfectant sprays and wipes are readily available for areas that are frequently used as well as for those who want to use them as an extra precaution.

Due to the relatively small size of our production crew and the 36,000 square foot work area, maintaining distancing is not difficult for the majority of our employees. Those employees are tasked with maintaining a 6-foot distance as much as possible, and taking safety precautions when moving into or through another’s space.

For those in tighter workspaces, such as the office, we have rearranged communal areas so that no more than 2 associates are working in the same room. The few that are working together have had their work stations moved more than the recommended distance apart.

At-risk employees, such as those that are older or have compromised immune systems, have been given offices with doors that will remain shut unless necessary. Hand sanitizer and masks are close by if an interaction between employees is required.

Last but not least, We have always told employees to go home or stay home if they are feeling sick. This practice has not changed, but with the threat of future outbreaks, we have become more stringent about making sure that employees are healthy and feel safe enough in their jobs to take time off if they don’t feel well.

We have obtained a limited amount of testing kits that will allow us to have a result in under 20 minutes. These kits, as well as thermometers, are available to all employees upon request.

A supervisor may also ask employees exhibiting signs of illness to take a test. If negative, the employee may stay (though they are still recommended to go home). If positive, the employee will be sent home and will not be allowed back until they have a doctor’s note clearing them.

With all of the precautions we’ve taken to ensure the safety of our work family and our wonderful clients, we are proud to say that we haven’t had a single person test positive for COVID-19 to date!
