Motorization is totally transforming our industry. Because consumers are more technically minded, it’s only natural for them to expect automation in draperies and shades. Everyone I talk with agrees that windows are getting larger and taller at warp speed!
Safety First.
Our industry has tackled many of the issues with cord safety and children in recent years. Helser Brothers discontinued corded traverse systems over a decade ago because of cord safety concerns. Motorization is the ultimate safety solution.
Keeping it simple.
Helser Brothers offers three different motors. Yep, just 3. And it is really simple to decide which motor will fit your needs. You only need to ask 2 questions.
The first question.
How is the drapery to be controlled? The least complicated option is a simple remote control. The drapery is operated on a Radio Frequency (RF) and controlled by hand held remote or a wall switch. Even the wall switch is easy. It sticks to the wall, no wiring required. You can use any of our three motors for this application, but the specialized Z-wave motor is probably not necessary. For this application, choose either the Eco-Shuttle or Eco-Shuttle HD (heavy duty) option.
If the drapery is to be controlled via Google Home, Amazon Echo, or any other home system or App, you should specify the new Z-Wave Motor. The Z-Wave motor can be plugged in or hard wired. Any hard wiring and integration wiring and set up is the responsibility of the homeowner and their automation specialist.
The second question.
This may sound strange, but how much will your drapery weigh? Our Eco-Shuttle HD and our Z-wave Motor will each handle up to 160# of fabric. How much is that? Well, 160# or thereabouts is the weight of the average male Great Dane. If you can lift your finished panels, I think you’re okay.

For sheers and lighter weight panels, our Eco-Shuttle motor will handle up to 100#. That’s about the weight of the average male German Shepherd. So once again, that’s a lot of fabric.
If you have seriously heavy or oversize panels, you can center split the treatment and put a motor on each side. That’s 2 Great Danes! Either way, Helser Brothers motors handle more weight than any other motorization option in our industry.
Beyond those two questions, the rest is all about pleats or ripplefold? What finial? What finish? And those are questions we are all very comfortable with. So see? It is easy.
Don’t forget!
Our motors have a 10 year warranty, which is twice the competition! And with Helser Brothers, we ship up to 106″ at No Charge!
Watch this space. More on simplifying motorization next week.
