The traditional three paned bay is still out there, but as window size has grown, so has the number of angles and panes.  It gets worse when terms like “clearance deductions” and “elbow deductions” and “template” enter the conversation. As Charlie Brown would say “Aaugh!”

Bay Window Hardware the EASY way

Helser Brothers has always had a soft spot for our customers. So, we make it super easy. We do it for you!

We have a Bay Window Calculation Form that simplifies your job. Just fill in your wall measurements, angles, and answer a couple of questions! We will take it from there and do all of the calculations for you.

But there are still a few things that will help you plan your treatment for maximum functionality.

Option 1: Limited or Non-Functional Treatments

image of miter cut rodsAll of our drapery rods can be miter cut. A miter cut can be done by the installer on the job site, but Helser Brothers will cut the rods for you at no charge.  If your installer cuts on site, be sure to order extra stain or paint for touching up the cut edges.

When selecting your rod style, be aware that twisted rods will not “match” when the cut edges are butted together. The cut edges can be effectively disguised by a ring or fabric tab. Even better, let us miter and then weld the rods in place. We smooth the cut edges and minimize the look of the mis-matched ends.

Best Case Scenario for Bay Window Hardware

The best case scenario for bay window draperies allows for a one way draw on either side of the bay and a center split panel in the middle of the bay.  The brackets on each rod serve to hold the end ring in place.

Bracket placement is simple with the correct number of brackets holding up each separate rod within the bay as shown below (black arrows below). When any rod within the bay exceeds our bracket to bracket recommendation, an additional bracket should be added (gray arrow below). This is also a good spot for a splice when one is needed to qualify for our Free Shipping option.

Stationary and Adjustable Elbows

Another option is to use corner elbows for bay windows.  We offer solid corner pieces for 7/8” and 1-1/4” smooth rods only. The 135° option has enough “give” to accommodate approximately 132° to 138° angles. We also have adjustable corner angle pieces for the 7/8”, 1-1/4” and 1-3/4” smooth rods. These pieces will adjust to any angle necessary.
