Designing outdoor drapery treatments is tough. Between precise measurements, picking out the best outdoor fabric, and figuring out what sort of hardware is best for your client’s environment, you will likely have a lot of questions. Below are a few FAQ that we hope will help clarify this often confusing task. 

Q. How Long will my Outdoor Hardware Last?

A. This question is a common one when talking about outdoor drapery hardware. The answer is that it depends upon a lot of factors. Each climate affects powder-coated metal differently. Moisture and dust are the two worst enemies of any outdoor product.

The #1 rule of outdoor drapery hardware is to keep it covered. Never try to install an outdoor treatment where the rain and snow will fall directly on it. Always plan your treatment to be under some type of overhang, beam, or soffit. This is common sense for the fabric as well. Installing without any overhead cover will void your warranty.

Q. What Rods are the Best for Outdoors?

A. Outdoor areas tend to be large so rods must be longer. Helser Brothers have the longest bracket to bracket maximums in the industry. For instance, our 1-3/4″ rod will span 160″ between brackets with a light sunbrella sheer! Wow.

Always start your planning for your outdoor drapery hardware with the best-case scenario. How will it draw? Where should it stack? Are there any obstacles in place? Order the rod size that best suits the distance between brackets you need. This planning method can save lots of grief later on.

Q. How do I Account for the Wind?

A. Lightweight brackets will not cut it with outdoor drapery hardware. Every climate experiences wind periodically. Brackets that securely anchor the rod are critical. Make sure you can install your brackets into a wood surface if at all possible.

Don’t make do with standard brackets. Take advantage of our ability to customize our outdoor drapery hardware. If you need a special bracket, ask. We will make it for you.

Q. What can I do about Unique Architecture?
